Private scholarships and support have also helped many students progress their education beyond high school. The community is very grateful to these people for their assistance.
Montrose, Colorado Western Colorado Friends of Tibet, Sister School Project
Western Colorado Friends of Tibet based in Montrose, Colorado has been supporting seven fortunate students from other villages seeking their high school degree in Khumjung. Mr. Ang Danu Sherpa, a Khumjung resident, now living in Montrose has been playing an important role with this scholarship program.
Canadian Friends’ Support
Mr David Jackson (Canada) has managed to provide a fund to help a group of financially disadvantaged students. Last year a grant of Rs 161000.00 was sent through the Himalayan Trust to encourage and help four students and their parents. With his kind support the four students are inspired to continue their high school education at Khumjung School.
Himalayan Helping Hearts
Since last year Mr Pemba Nuru Sherpa (Guruji Pasang’s son) has organised a fund of Rs 1,000/month/student through an organisation called ‘Himalayan Helping Hearts’. It supports five students to pursue their high school education at Khumjung School who otherwise would not have been able to afford to go.
The Greater Himalayas Foundation
Presently five students of Khumjung School have been very fortunate to receive The Greater Himalayas Foundation Scholarship through Mrs Phurwa Sona Sherpa (Khumjung) to further their college education in Kathmandu.
Mrs Gwen Smith (Canada)
Mrs Gwen Smith (Canada) has been helping two students to pursue their studies in Khumjung School. The school hopes she will be kind enough to support them for their college education too.
