The late Sir Edmund Hillary: pride of New Zealand and the ‘Bada Sahib” to the Sherpa people.  From bee-keeper to famous mountaineer to adventurer and philanthropist, Sir Edmund Hillary’s life can only be described as extraordinary.  After summiting the highest peak in the world with Tenzing Norgay Sherpa, he was forever linked to the Himalayas and the people of the Solukhumbu region.  Little did Hillary, or the people he met at the time, realise the impact that he would eventually have on their lives. Hillary’s successful Everest summit was the beginning of a lifelong association with the Sherpa people.  He went on to found the Himalayan Trust, which provided much-needed education and health facilities to the people of Solukhumbu.
